Fresh quality food at Monstera Kitchen

Monstera Kitchen provides simple food made with quality ingredients and by “happy people", says Tama Moore who opened Monstera Kitchen with her brother Kahu Harrison in mid October.

“We chose to open 545 K' Road because the street still retains a genuine and active community as well as the uniqueness of a very different day/night character!"

Monstera Kitchen has a heavy salad focus, as well as feature hero sandwiches filled with slow cooked meats and all homemade dressings. The salads change daily and are made from fresh seasonal ingredients.

Tama says they opened Monstera Kitchen because they struggled to find good food that wasn't necessarily fast food during the day.

“Salads can be seriously filling when done well. We have vegan options but also salads with meat. We also love the idea of helping people get their dinner sorted with a couple of salads and dips that could quickly complete a BBQ, or take the pressure off cooking."

Online Recruiter Sidekicker loves K' Road precinct

Sidekicker, an on-demand on-line staffing platform, launched in Auckland early 2016, moving into 1/10 Galatos St in April.

“We love the location and community. Since moving into K' Road we have been able to develop our own space and culture which has been really great for growing the business and building an awesome team," says Sidekicker NZ general manager Ellie Amos.

“We wanted a young vibrant area, close to other innovative companies, like Eat My Lunch. The cafes in this area have great coffee and possess a character that is hard to find elsewhere."

Through Sidekicker, businesses can connect directly with a pool of over 10,000 skilled workers (Sidekicks) seeking flexible working opportunities. The Sidekicks already have detailed profiles available – with ratings and reviews – and have been interviewed and skill tested.

“We have no K' Road clients using us just YET but we have a few things coming up," says Ellie. Find out more about Sidekicker here.

VAPO opens doors on K' Road

A testing station with 80 different flavours is just part of the service offered at VAPO, a dedicated vape shop that opened its doors in 251 K' Road mid October. VAPO sells a range of exclusive American e-liquids and also VAPO's own New Zealand made e-liquid.

VAPO director Ben Pryor says VAPO specialises in vape products and vape products – it is not a headshop looking for other ways to make money now legal highs have been banned.

“As such, we have fully trained staff with all the knowledge to look after someone just wanting to quit smoking through to taking care of the most discerning vaping enthusiasts."

Ben says the elegant minimalist interior was designed by MadeBy Ltd to be inviting and welcoming. “The novel addition for the K' Road store is the red neon 'VAPO Karangahape Rd' sign to tie in with the feel and history of K' Road," he explains.

VAPO have tailored programmes available to help people switch from smoking to vaping.

“We are also currently putting together a K' Road loyalty programme to help K' Road business communities who support the Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 goal. We are keen to discuss this with any businesses with staff wanting to swap smoking for vaping."
