rocking the streets Maori style in a fashion extravaganza that takes the audience from masks and body adornment to urban streetwear. E Whitu nga Whetu celebrates the breadth of talent within the creative industries. Rauru is proud to present an evening showcasing the culture of Aotearoa.

This promises to be an inspirational evening with some of Aotearoa’s hottest Maori fashion labels anahau, Jeanine Clarkin, Norwinnz Aotearoa and Moa, alongside stunning creations from artists Regan Belzar, Tania Remana, Ron Te Kawa and Martha Hampton to name a few. Influences from within the realms of Tane Mahuta, Hine Titama The Dawn Maid and the art of Ta Moko are just three of the seven categories for which the garments have been created. The kaupapa of Matariki will be explored in the Avante Garde section as the grand finale.

The evening will be infused with Maori music from Mahina (Big Belly Women) and Horomona Horo playing taonga puoro (traditional instruments) through to native hip hop. DAM Native and Nat Rose are both featured in the show and have recently released their long awaited albums. Special appearances from Fijian poet D Kamali and the Newton Cook Island Youth Fellowship Drummers will highlight links to our Polynesian ancestry and stories from Te Moana nui a Kiwa.

Guests can look forward to an evening of star gazing with a fine selection of Maori inspired food, art and live entertainment all set in the historic Hopetoun Alpha building, Beresford Square in central Auckland.

Tickets are $30 available from Real Groovy, Conch Records and Te Karanga Gallery, Level 1, 208 K Road.
