Keith S. (Nobby) Clark |
| Keith S Clark is one of Auckland’s most notable local artists; his works on paper and canvas are a fascinating record of the Queen City and a social commentary on its colourful people. In particular his elegant and quirky drawings endeared him to a whole generation of New Zealanders appearing in a wide range of publications throughout the last quarter of the 20th century. |
| He used his lyrical and energetic graphic style to not only capture the character and colour of inner city Auckland, but also to raise awareness about the demolition of its heritage buildings. Nobby Clark was very much aware of the importance of local character and the effect of architecture and urban design upon it. He celebrated those parts of Auckland with character and lamented the thoughtless and unnecessary loss of heritage. “The buildings and the people work a sort of magic on each other, each adapting to accommodate the other until they achieve a lovely synthesis”. |
| One of his favourite places was Karangahape Road and the image we have used of the White Fish Shop and Pink Pussy Cat Club encapsulates a great deal about K’ Road, both past and present. |
