BEGGING

K’Road and Queen St are experiencing an escalation of begging on the street.   Begging will be able to be policed under a new council by-law which comes into effect on 26 May. Until then, our strategy for managing it is as follows:

If substance abuse, alcohol or intimidating behaviour is involved, we recommend ringing either 111 or K’ Rd Security on 021 045 2305.

If none of the above apply, K’ Road Security will ask the beggar(s) to move on.  However, if they refuse, we have no power to make them.  We have informed council and police of this situation and continue to lobby for resolution of it.  READ IT HERE ; full bylaw details.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE

The availability of ‘legal highs’ is creating problems.  K’ Road Security can no longer be sure whether consumers are using legal or illegal substances.  Therefore, current strategy for dealing with this is to ask users to move on.  If they refuse, K’Road Security/Council have no power to force them.  The KBA have made the police and council aware of this anomaly in dealing with anti-social behaviour.

ULTRA FAST BROADBAND

Chorus have begun the process of installing fibre-optic cable in the K’ Road precinct.  The roll-out is expected to take around four months.  Completion of this process will mean businesses will have the option of delivery of broadband at ultra-fast speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.  Click here for further information.
